KANSAS CITY ROYALS (+105)
Game one of this double-header officially kicks off the second half of the MLB season and it happens to pit two of the hottest teams in baseball heading into the break. The White Sox started their season sluggish, but a nice mini-run towards the end of the 1st half has them at least potentially in the run for one of the two wild card spots -- but they are hanging by a thin thread. They posted a 9-3 ML mark to close out their L12 games, with the pitching staff leading the charge there, compiling a 1.95 ERA combined in that span. It won't get any easier for KC today as perhaps no one is throwing better than Samardzija for the Sox, tossing a 4-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over Toronto his last time out. That was pretty much par for the course for him lately as he heads into today's meeting with a 2-0 record and 2.40 ERA in his L6 starts, with a 0.54 ERA in his L2 outings. The Royals counter with their own ace here today, and as usual, Volquez has stepped up to the billing. He has picked up a perfect 4-0 record in his L7 outings, while allowing 1 ER or less in 4 of those starts. Volquez has also pitched well against Chicago this season, holding a 1-1 mark and 1.35 ERA in his 2 meetings against the White Sox. The Royals have rolled through their first part of their schedule this season, leading the AL with 52 victories, and they were red hot immediately prior to the break as well. Kansas City went into All-Star break with an 7-1 ML mark over their L8 games and holding an 8-3 ML tally in their L11 overall. Kansas City won the first 4 games between the two teams this season, but the White Sox have picked up the L2 wins, both coming on their home turf. The Royals have also picked up 2 straight wins when playing as the underdog. Take the KANSAS CITY ROYALS in Game One of today's double-header........
