TODAY'S FREEBIE PLAYS --
(MLB)
PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (+105)
Always hard to roll with the worst team in baseball, especially with them looking to close out a 4-game sweep over the Braves here today, the first time in 66 years they will accomplish the feat against the franchise. But there is reason to expect the Phils continue their roll to start off the 2nd half, and the biggest reason is there is a personal trend of ours in play today on the Phillies that has hit for nearly 70% overall in 2015. Secondly, this is clearly a game between two teams that are currently headed in different directions at this point in the season. Atlanta comes into Sunday's meeting having compiled a 1-9 ML mark over their L10 games overall, while Philadelphia has been equally as good as the Braves have been bad, posting a 12-2 ML mark in their L14 overall. The Phillies have out scored the Braves, 25-6, so far through the first 3 games and we expect the same today from a Philadelphia team that has averaged 5.6 RPG after the ASB, while their pitching staff has also posted a 2.98 ERA in that same 14-game span. Teheran has absolutely dominated the Phillies in recent meetings, having posted a 4-1 record and 1.69 ERA in his L6 meetings against the team, while putting together a 2-0 mark and 0.56 ERA in his 2 starts at Philadelphia last season. He hasn't been nearly as effective in recent starts however, holding an 0-2 mark and 5.16 ERA in his L4 starts overall. Teheran has been absolutely wretched on the road so far in 2015, compiling a 1-5 record and 7.24 ERA in his 11 starts away from home this season. Morgan is pitching much better for the Phils recently, holding a 2-0 tally and 3.78 ERA in his L3 outings. Still though, this one is more about the two teams in play today. Again, Atlanta is just mired in a skid right now, scoring 16 total runs in their L10 games overall and holding a 4-16 ML record in their L20 contests. Even worse, the Braves are 1-13 ML in their L14 on the road, failing to score more than 3 runs in a game in any of their L13 away from home. While the Phillies have picked up 7 straight wins against division foes. Roll with the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES for the home sweep.....
MIAMI MARLINS (-135) AND
UNDER 6.5 SD PADRES @ MIAI MARLINS
This game is pretty much the opposite from the Phillies game in that this one is mostly based on the pitcher in play more than anything else. Can't deny that Jose Fernandez is the man. The big dog represents a new life for this Marlins teams future, but he is as close to Godly you can get when he's throwing at home. Seriously, sit down for these stats. Fernandez is now 15-0 lifetime at home with an eye-popping 1.19 ERA in 23 lifetime starts there. That's right, 15-0 with a 1.19 ERA. Sorry just has to be noted twice. Opposing batters are hitting a collective .172 against him in Miami in his career and he also holds a staggering 173:40 K/BB ratio in those games. He has stayed true to form this season, allowing 1 R in his L13 IP there, and he has now held his opponents to 1 ER or less in 6-of-his-L7 starts in Miami. In fact, he is now 6-0 in that span with a minuscule 0.96 ERA, allowing 5 ER in his 46.2 IP there in that span. Even further, 14-of-his-L17 home starts have seen him keep his opponent to 1 ER or less, while he has only allowed more than 2 ER in a home start one time in his entire career in Miami, with that coming in his first start back of his injury this season. He allowed 3 ER in that one and even picked up the victory. Miami has currently lost 7-of-their-L8 overall, while the Padres have suddenly gotten hot, going 7-1 in their L8 themselves. Fernandez is 2-1 against the Padres with a 2.29 ERA in his career, with their lone win against him coming in the game he apparently was injured in, as after that start last May is when he had Tommy John surgery. Take the MIAMI MARLINS and the UNDER in this pitcher's duel......
