WASHINGTON NATIONALS (+110)
Can you say turmoil in New York? The Mets were supposed to have Carlos Gomez on the roster for this one and dealt away some of their pieces for him. Problem is, the trade fell through and those pieces are still in place in New York. Now they are set to face a Nationals team that has absolutely destroyed them in recent meetings, especially in NY. They have 3 shutouts of the Mets in the L5 games there, while also posting an 18-3 ML record in the L21 meetings between the two teams at Citi Field. On top of that, they get to square off against Gio Gonzalez, who has been just as impressive as of late and against the franchise. Gonzalez comes into today's meeting having posted a 4-0 mark and 2.03 ERA in his L5 starts overall. He has been absolutely money for his backers when pitching in Flushing lately, holding a 6-1 record and 1.66 ERA in his 9 career road starts in NY against the Mets. He is 2-0 in his 2 starts against them in 2015, allowing 2 ER in his 13 IP against them. Harvey is pitching well right now as well, posting a 3-0 tally and 1.33 ERA in his L4 starts at home himself. He has held himself well against Washington in his career, as although he is only 3-2 against them lifetime, he does hold a 1.34 ERA in those 7 starts. Roll with the WASHINGTON NATIONALS in today's meeting......
OVER 9 PITTSBURGH PIRATES @ CINCINNATI REDS (-105)
The Reds bombarded the Pirates yesterday with a 15 run outburst in their 15-5 win. We expect pretty much the same result here today as both of these starters come in having some rocky outings lately, while the Pirates have also been absolutely horrible when playing against the Reds lately. For starters, the Pirates have now lost 6 straight games at Cincinnati and have gone 2-8 ML in the L10 meetings there, while allowing an average of nearly 6 runs per game. Locke is on the hill for the Pirates and he has been just as bad against the Reds recently, going 0-2 with a 5.18 ERA in his L5 starts against the franchise and he's allowed 8 ER and 16 H in his 11 IP (6.55 ERA) versus them so far this season. He has won only 1 time in his L6 outings overall and has posted an 0-2 record and 5.77 ERA in his L3 starts prior to this one. The Reds come into this one having won 3 straight, although Lorenzen most likely will make his own offense work harder in order to win their 4th in a row. He has struggled mightily as of late, going 0-3 with a balky 8.83 ERA through his L5 outings. He was rocked for 8 runs in 2.1 innings of work against the Rockies his last time out -- a 17-7 loss. Can't see how this one doesn't go Over the total, as even the Pirates bullpen has struggled lately, holding an ERA barely under 6 over their L12 games. Take the OVER in tonight's game.......
