MILWAUKEE BREWERS (-130)
The Brewers just absolutely continue to roll and picked up what amounted to yet another easy win in the steel city yesterday and we fully expect them to do it again tonight. The Pirates continue to hurtle downwards in the standings and overall, as they have now lost 2-of-3 and have posted an abysmal 2-9 ML record in their L11 games. As I wrote up yesterday, they have also struggled mightily against the Brewers in recent meetings, as the Brew Crew has now taken the decision in 5 straight meetings and posted a 7-1 ML record in the L8 battles against their division rivals. Pittsburgh has also managed to lose 3 of the 4 meetings at home this season against Milwaukee as well. The Brewers are rolling and very well could be this year's version of the St. Louis Cardinals/Tampa Bay Rays as they continue to inch closer towards a huge comeback/possible playoff push, once again posting a 6-1 ML record in their L7 games overall. They have also gone 21-6 in their L27 games to inch into a serious contender role for one of the two wild card spots this season. Estrada is on the hill for the Brewers and although that might not seem like much of an advantage, the youngster has dominated the Pirates in his brief history against them. He started against the Pirates back on September 1 and tossed 7 innings of above quality ball, allowing only 1 R and 4 H while striking out 10 in leading the Brewers to a 3-2 victory. He almost produced a quality start in his first meeting against the Pirates this season, although he came up short, lasting only 5.2 IP and allowing 3 ER and 6 H, while also striking out 11 in that outing, in the Pirates 6-4 win. Both of those outings were played in Milwaukee though. He faced the Pirates once in Pittsburgh last season and pitched very well, allowing 2 ER in 7 innings of work, also leading the Brewers to an 11-4 win in that one. That was his only time pitching in the steel city, but he has fared well against the Pirates in his career, posting a lifetime 2-0 mark with a paltry 1.76 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and lowly .182 BAA against the Pittsburgh franchise in 7 career outings (4 GS) and 30.2 IP. Estrada obviously has managed to minimize the Pirates bats against him, holding McCutchen (3/13 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 4 K); Alvarez (2/10 HR, RBI, 5 K); Jones (3/13 3 K); Walker (2/10 3B, RBI, 4 K); Tabata (1/5); Sanchez (0/3); McKenry (0/3 2 K); Barmes (0/5) and Barajas (1/6 HR, RBI) to a combined .176 in 68 total AB against the righty in their careers. The Brewers have also won 5 of Estrada's L6 starts, although he has helped the cause himself, as he has allowed 1 ER or less in 4 of his L5 starts, with 3 of those outings having allowed none. He is 3-1 with a 1.52 ERA over his L5 starts overall. With the way he's pitching and the way the Brewers offense has been clicking, we'll roll with the hot hand once again here today. Take the MILWAUKEE BREWERS to stay hot and pick up the WIN here today.........
LOS ANGELES DODGERS (+145)
If you have been following the Dodgers lately, you know they are playing the worst kind of baseball and once again playing some of the most boring baseball known to man. Which is a shame too, because after they put this current roster together it appeared this might be the team to beat hands down. However, they have struggled mightily and one of their biggest problems as of late has been their inability to get anything going offensively and by the fact that they just continue to struggle getting a key hit from anyone other than Adrian Gonzalez. They have managed to score 4 runs or more in only 4 of their L16 games overall, scoring 2 R or less in 8 of those contests. They have been abysmal on the road as well lately, as they totaled 7 R in their L5 game road stretch prior to the recent St. Louis series, but their pitching was decent as they allowed 15 total runs themselves on that trip, and have held the opposing team to 3 R or less in 5 of their L7 games overall. Harang is on the hill for the Dodgers and he has been dominant in his 2 career starts at Nationals Park in his career, putting together a nice 1.54 ERA with only 2 ER allowed in 11.2 IP in the nation's capital. He last pitched there in 2010, and gave up 2 ER on 8 H in only 4 IP that day. The Nationals do have a few guys that hit him well, but he has contained LaRoche, Werth and Zimmerman to a career .241 average with 4 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR and 7 RBI in 54 career AB against him. Harang has also pitched extremely well on the road lately as well, allowing only 16 ER in his L9 starts on the road (2.75 ERA in 52.1 IP) since June. The other Zimmerman is on the hill for Washington today and he is always a good guy to roll on an under with, although he did struggle in his one career outing against the Dodgers, giving up 6 ER and 6 H in 6 IP, although that was in Los Angeles and back in his rookie year in 2009. He does have some experience facing a few of the newcomers to the Dodgers roster and he has not fared well as Ramirez (7/15 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 2 K); Victorino (4/13 3 2B, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K); Punto (2/5 RBI, BB) and Abreu (1/2 BB) have combined with Kemp (1/3 HR, 4 RBI, K) and Ethier (1/3) to collectively hit .390 against Zimmerman in their careers. The Nats also come into this one having just been swept at the hands of the Braves and will be facing off against a Dodgers team that has currently won 5 straight between them and has posted a 7-1 record in the L8 meetings between the two teams overall. LA has also won 2 straight in Washington. Take the LOS ANGELES DODGERS in the nation's capital today.......
