TODAY'S ACTION --
(MLB)
*2 UNITS* TAMPA BAY RAYS (-145) AND
*2 UNITS* 1ST 5 INNINGS: TAMPA BAY RAYS (-150) AND
*2 UNITS* UNDER 7 TORONTO BLUE JAYS @ TAMPA BAY RAYS (+110)
The Blue Jays have been destroying the Rays so far in this series, outscoring the home team by a score of 24-15 through the first 3 games of the series so far. The Rays will be looking to avoid the sweep and they are in the most capable hands for that to be avoided tonight with their ace Price taking the hill. The big lefty is having a rough start to his season so far, posting a 1-3 record with a balky 6.25 ERA through his first 7 starts this season. Surprisingly, he has also compiled a hefty 1.48 WHIP and opponents are currently hitting over .300 against him this season so far. He must be much, much better today obviously. Which Price will show up tonight, it's a little hard to tell, as he is coming in off his worst outing of the season, allowing 9 ER, 2 HR and 11 H in only 6.2 innings of work in a 9-3 loss to the Rockies. His previous worst outing of the season came against the Indians at home in his 2nd start of the season, in which he was tagged for 8 ER, 2 HR and 10 H in only 5 IP in that 13-0 loss. The reason we bring that up though, is because in his start immediately following that Cleveland loss, Price was perhaps at his best in 2013, as he was completely shut down in his next start, allowing a measly 1 ER and 4 H in 6 innings of a 2-1 loss at Boston. We are expecting another outing like that from Price here tonight. In 2012, Price was also much better in his follow-up start after getting hammered in his previous outing. The 3 worst outings for Price in 2012, was a 6 ER, 10 H loss at Texas, he gave up 7 ER and 9 H in a 9-1 loss at home against the Mets, and 5 ER and 11 H in a loss at the NYY. He followed up each of those losses with a W, going a perfect 3-0 in those 3 starts with a decent 3.48 ERA in those outings. And in his career, Price has allowed 6 ER or more in only 6 starts he has made. Five of those starts came prior to the 2013 season, and Price was pretty good in his follow-up starts. The left-hander was a perfect 5-0 in those follow up games prior to this season, allowing 3 ER or less in all 5 of those games. He has also put together a commanding 2.73 ERA in those 32.2 innings of work in those games. Even if you include the 2-1 loss to Boston this season, Price is still a perfect 5-0 in all those follow-up games, with a very respectable 2.49 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. Oh yeah, probably should mention the fact that Price has absolutely dominated the Blue Jays in his career. The superstar ace is 12-2 through 15 career starts against Toronto with a brilliant 2.29 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and .223 BAA in 102.1 innings against the franchise. He was a perfect 3-0 against the Jays in 2012, but all 3 of those games were played in Toronto. Price has been dominant when facing them in Tampa as well, as he has won 4 of the L5 starts there, with all 5 of those games finishing with totals well under 7 runs. Toeing the hill on the other side of the diamond will be Dickey, who has struggled to find any form of consistency since joining the AL this season. The knuckle-baller has struggled through his first 7 starts, putting forth a 2-5 record with a hefty 5.36 ERA overall. He too has struggled to find any success against the Rays in his career, as the righty is 1-2 with a 5.60 ERA in 7 career outings (3 GS) against them. Go with the TAMPA BAY RAYS to WIN and in the 1ST 5 INNINGS and also add the UNDER into the mix.........
*2 UNITS* KANSAS CITY ROYALS (+105) AND
*2 UNITS* 1ST 5 INNINGS: KANSAS CITY ROYALS (EVEN) AND
*2 UNITS* OVER 8.5 KC ROYALS @ BAL ORIOLES (-105)
These two teams have been knocking on the Over through the first 2 games of this series. However, Baltimore has held the upper hand in both games on their home turf. Enter Jeremy Guthrie into the mix. The veteran has been money for his backers, having not lost a decision in any of his L17 starts overall!! In fact, he hasn't lost a decision since his very first start in August of last season, helping his Royals to an amazing 15-2 ML record in that span, including a near perfect 5-1 so far in 2013. In those 17 starts, he has allowed more than 2 ER only 4 times and he has allowed more than 4 ER only once in that timeframe. He has made 3 starts on the road to kick off the 2013 season, posting a 1-0 record so far and allowing 2 ER or less in 2 of those 3 starts. The Royals have also posted a 5-2 ML record in his L7 starts on the road. Surprisingly, he has never faced the Orioles in his career, but he has had tremendous success against this Baltimore lineup when he has faced the hitters individually. Guthrie has managed to keep the Orioles lineup of Davis, Casilla, Hardy and McClouth to a dismal .103 average (3-for-29) with only Casilla having the 3 H and the foursome combining for 6 K's against him. Roll with the KANSAS CITY ROYALS and the OVER in today's battle.........
*2 UNITS* PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (+105)
Hamels has been struggling mightily to kick off his 2013 campaign. He does have a 4-1 career record against Arizona through 7 career starts and he has also been pitching much better as of late, allowing only 9 ER in his L5 starts. Unfortunately the Phillies have also only scored 9 total runs in that span overall. But with the Phillies dropping a heart-breaker in walk-off fashion last night, we give them the edge to come through big here tonight. Take the PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES to WIN..........
