1ST 5 INNINGS: OVER 5.5 WASHINGTON NATIONALS @ COLORADO ROCKIES (-110)
Boy have the Rockies starting pitchers been absolutely brutal lately and maybe it's time for manager Tracy to give up his self-imposed 75-pitch limit for his starting rotation. Something has to give when your starters have a combined 0-14 record and 9.42 ERA overall in their L20 games started. Pitching is contagious as I always say and obviously it counts when it is bad pitching as well. Outman takes the hill for the Rockies, although that's not necessarily a good thing as opponents have lit him up for a .311 average this season, and he has compiled an 0-3 record with a bulbous 8.64 ERA and 1.68 WHIP in 13 appearances and 5 starts to kick off 2012. His L4 starts in the
month of June have been even worse, as not only is he 0-2, but he also has allowed 4 ER or more in all of those starts (5 ER in 3 of them) but he also has never made it past the 5th inning in any of them, as he has put up a pathetic 10.25 ERA in those 16 innings of work. He has never faced the Nationals in
his career and the only batter he has ever faced (Nady) is currently on the DL. But the Nationals offense is absolutely rolling right now, plating 23 R and 35 H in the L2 games against Colorado and with Jackson on the hill, if they produce like that today, this one will be over early. Jackson too has struggled against the Rockies in his career though, so he may actually need the support afterall. The righty has posted a subpar 1-2 record in 6 career starts against them, but his skyrocketed 13.91 ERA , 2.59 WHIP and .422 BAA is by far his worst lifetime numbers against any team by more than 2 times even!! He has allowed 34 ER, 43 H and HR in 22 innings pitched against the Rockies and he has equally struggled when pitching at Coors Field, as he has posted an 0-1 record with an even higher 15.75 ERA through 3 starts in the stadium. The Rockies are hitting a combined .429 against him in those 3 outings, while he has allowed 21 ER and 24 H in a mere 12 IP. Surprisingly he did earn his lone career win against the Rockies last season,
allowing a much more reasonable 2 ER in 5.1 innings of work in the 6-2 win, although he was pitching for the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in that one. But several Rockies hit him well, with Cuddyer (5/9 3B, HR, 6 RBI, 3 BB, 2 K); Fowler (2/2 RBI); Giambi (5/16 2B, HR, 5 RBI, 4 BB, 2 K); Gonzalez (3/5 2B, 3B, 4 RBI); Helton (5/12 2 2B, 4 RBI, 3 BB, K) and Scutaro (6/20 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 K) going for an even .400 average against him with 4 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR and 25 RBI between them in 60 career AB facing Jackson. This one should be another shoot-out on the scoreboard and if the Rockies can perform like usual and get to Jackson early, we should have an easy casher here. Go with the OVER in the 1ST 5 INNINGS in this expected high-scoring affair.......
