THURSDAY'S PLAYS --
(NCAA BB)
*5-UNITS* VANDERBILT COMMODORES (+5) AND *2.5-UNITS* OVER 127.5
Vanderbilt has won 3 out of the L4 meetings between the two schools, and has posted a 3-3 ML record in their L6 games played at Alabama, with Alabama having won all 3 of their wins by 7 points or less, with 2 of the 3 coming by 5 points or less. The Commodores are smoking hot right now too, having won 7 in a row and 8 of their L9 overall. They are also 3-1 ML in their 4 true road games and 5-1 ML in all 6 games away from home when you include neutral court games. Their only loss came by 2 points, in OT, at Louisville. They have some impressive road wins already with wins at Marquette, at South Carolina and over NC ST on the road. Go BIG with the VANDERBILT COMMODORES and also roll with 2.5 UNITS on the OVER in this one tonight.......
*3-UNITS* LONG BEACH STATE 49'ERS (-2.5)
VIRGINIA CAVALIERS (-3.5)
COLORADO BUFFALOES (-9.5) AND OVER 127
UTAH UTES (+14.5)
VIRGINIA TECH HOKIES (+7)
(NHL)
NASHVILLE PREDATORS (-140)
After Rinne got a rare night off, it's probable that he'll be back in goal for tonight's game. That would ultimately give him a chance to notch his sixth straight win and continue his dominance over the league-worst Blue Jackets on Thursday night. Nashville (26-16-4) is finishing up a three-game trip, which Rinne opened by making 36 saves in a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders on Monday. His run of nine straight starts was halted the next night, with backup Anders Lindback getting the nod in a 3-0 loss to the Rangers that snapped the Predators' five-game win streak. Rinne has posted a 1.60 goals-against average during his win streak. The Vezina Trophy finalist has beaten the Blue Jackets (13-27-5) more than any other opponent, going 12-4-1 with a 2.67 GAA in 18 starts. Nashville is 3-0-1 against Columbus this season, with each game decided by one goal. Defenseman Ryan Suter leads the Predators with eight points in the season series. Suter missed his first game of the season Tuesday due to an upper-body injury, but Trotz believes he has a good chance of returning against the Blue Jackets. Jeff Carter scored five goals in those four meetings for Columbus, but he's out with a separated shoulder. The club is also without key contributors James Wisniewski and R.J. Umberger. Curtis Sanford, 1-1-1 with a 4.23 GAA against Nashville this season, has started the last seven games for Columbus. Roll with NASHVILLE to WIN this one as the road favorite here tonight.......
BOSTON BRUINS PUCK LINE -1.5 (+200) AND OVER 5 (-140)
The Bruins get Brad Marchand and Rich Peverly back. They have struggled without them going 1-2-0 on the road, losing to Carolina and Tampa bay. Tim Thomas is 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a .934 save % against the Devils this season. He is 10-4-0 with a 1.97 GAA and a .939 save % on the road. For Jersey, Brodeur is 0-1-0 with a 6.00 GAA and a .778 save % vs the Bruins this season. He is 7-7-0 with a 2.65 GAA and an .896 save % at home. Hedberg is 0-1-0 with a 4.06 GAA and an .892 save % vs Boston and is 4-9-1-1 with a 3.01 GAA in his career vs Boston. Skate with the BOSTON BRUINS on the PUCK LINE -1.5 for some monster odds and roll with the OVER in this one as well.........
ST. LOUIS BLUES PUCK LINE -1.5 (EVEN)
Edmonton is missing Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins and several others. The Oilers are 6-17-1 on the road and the Blues are 19-3-2 at home. St Louis has the 2nd best home record in the league and are 11-0-2 at the Scottrade Center since Dec. 6. The St. Louis Blues have set a single-season club record by earning at least one point in 13 straight home games. After losing its final three games of 2011, St. Louis has earned 13 out of a possible 14 points this month (6-0-1) and is one of five teams with at least 60. The Oilers, 1-11-0 in their last 12 road games and 6-16-2 overall since Nov. 23, may also be without Taylor Hall, who collided with a teammate and cut his eye against Columbus. For St Louis, if Halak gets the start he is 3-1-1 with a 2.57 GAA vs the Oilers and is 10-2-2 with a 1.90 GAA at home this season. If Elliott starts he is 9-1-1 with a 1.36 GAA at home. Edmonton's Devan Dubnyk, who has started the last two games, stopped 33 shots in the loss to St. Louis, and is 2-2-0 with a 2.73 GAA in four starts this month and is 3-9-0 with a 3.12 GAA on the road. Nikolai Khabibulin is 0-5-1 with a 4.09 GAA in his last six games and is 3-8-1 with a 2.92 GAA on the road. Khabibulin has played well against the Blues in his career but they just have too many good players out right now. Take the ST LOUIS BLUES on the PUCK LINE for even money in tonight's match-up..........
UNDER 5 CALGARY FLAMES @ LOS ANGELES KINGS (-115)
(NBA)
*3 UNITS* NEW ORLEANS HORNETS (+9.5)
The Hornets have actually owned the Rockets in recent meetings, but not sure if that has any weight here in tonight's match-up, however, we will definitely take our chances with the Hornets as double-digit underdogs in this one. New Orleans is 6-1 ML and ATS in the L7 meetings between the two franchises, with 3 of those outright wins coming in the only 3 games in which they were listed as the underdog. Now this Rockets team is a different team and they are currently playing their best ball of the season, winning 4 straight and 5 of their L6, with 2 of their 3 wins on their home court in that span coming by 14 points or more. In fact, the Rockets would have covered today's spread in 4 of their 6 games at home, with the only 2 teams they haven't covered against being playoff contenders OKC and PORT, and the Rockets are actually 7-0 ATS in their L7 games overall coming into tonight's battle. They are 5-0 ATS when listed as the favorite for 2011-12, including 3-0 ATS at home with each of those wins coming by 11 points or more. But the Hornets actually haven't been that bad on the road this season, as despite posting a 2-4 ML record in their 6 road games this season, but their last win was a huge outright win at Denver as a +13 point underdog, and they have posted a 4-2 ATS record in those 6 games, including 2-1 ATS as a double-digit underdog on the season so far. They do come into tonight's game having lost 5 straight after that win in Denver, but they have lost each and every one of those 5 games by 10 points or less. In fact, they have only had 3 games all season long in which they have been beaten by more than today's spread and that was at Dallas, at Sacramento and against Phoenix, whom they had just beaten a few days prior to start the season. The Hornets have also won each of the L3 meetings in Houston, as well as 10-4 ATS in their L14 meetings played there also. Take the NEW ORLEANS HORNETS to COVER as the double-digit underdogs in this one.......
UTAH JAZZ (-2.5)
The Jazz have been on fire as of late, quietly winning 3 straight and 8 of their L9 overall, and have gone 7-1 ATS in their L8 overall. They have also posted a 7-1 ML and 6-2 ATS record in their 8 games on their home court, with their only loss coming to the Lakers by 3 in OT. They have also gone 4-1 ATS when listed as the favorite this season with 6 of their L7 wins coming by 8 points or more. Dallas is coming in off a brutal loss to the Clippers last night (although we cashed on them ATS) and are a bit banged up, with Carter expected to be out tonight and Nowitzki battling a knee injury, but is expected to play. If you saw the way the Clippers game ended last night, you now should be fully aware of what we have personally been saying all season long, that Kidd is now a major liability for the Mavericks and they play much better with him off the court as opposed to on it. Fortunately for us, he will be on the court tonight. Dallas was looking like they were rounding into form before they headed into the Staples Center and promptly dropped 2 straight there by a combined 5 points. They are now 2-5 ML, although 4-3 ATS, in their 7 games away from home this season, and have posted a 4-2 ATS record when listed as the underdog. However, they have managed to score a measly 90 points or less in 5 of their L6 on the road. Go with the UTAH JAZZ to COVER the SPREAD as the small home favorites in this one.....
LOS ANGELES LAKERS (+5.5)
No Wade, and possibly no Lebron either, and the Heat are favored by nearly 6?? Something does stink to high heaven with this line, but how can you not go with the Lakers here. But we will only keep it at 1-UNIT due to the stink that is all over the line. I would expect the Lakers to win this game though, even if Lebron plays (and despite him being 8-2 against Kobe in his career). Yes, the Lakers have been brutal on the road this season, posting a 1-4 ML and ATS record in all 5 games played as the visitors, failing to score more than 96 points in any of those games. But this should be a game they will be able to control and we think they will win the game outright. The Heat have gone 6-0 ATS and 4-2 ML in the L6 meetings between the two teams, including 2-0 ATS and ML with the Big 3 on board, although again, they may only be with one of the trio tonight. Roll with the LAKERS to COVER the SPREAD as the road underdogs tonight........
