1ST 5 INNINGS: LOS ANGELES ANGELS (-135)
The Angels are in desperation mode and is there anyone else you would want on the mound when you absolutely need a win than Weaver? We think not and because of that we are rolling with the youngster today and hoping for an outing much like his L2 against the Rangers, in which he went 2-0 and gave up 3 ER and 11 H in 11.1 IP, as opposed to his first outing against the Rangers this season in which he was rocked for 8 ER and 10 H in a mere 3.1 innings of work. Weaver has absolutely dominated Texas when pitching against them at Angel Stadium as through 13 career starts against the Rangers in Anaheim in his career, the righty has allowed more than 3 ER only one time and that was way back in 2006 in his last start of his rookie season, which was also his first ever home start against the Rangers. In the 11 outings against the Rangers at home since then, Weaver has dominated them by holding them scoreless in 5 of those games and holding them to 1 R or less in 7 of those contests!! In fact, over his L3 home outings against Texas, he has posted a perfect 2-0 record (Angels are 3-0) and compiled a 0.86 ERA and 1.10 WHIP, while holding the Rangers to a .285 BA. But he has been even better in his L6 starts against them there since 2010, as he has gone a perfect 5-0 (Angels are 6-0) and his ERA rises only slightly to 1.08. Since the 2007 season, Weaver is a perfect 8-0, while the Angels are 10-1 in his 12 starts at home against the Rangers in that span. He has completely dominated them, with a 1.62 ERA in that span, to go with a 1.04 WHIP and 68 K in 72 IP. Dempster is on the hill for the Rangers and although he has settled in somewhat to Texas, posting a 6-1 record since his trade, his inflated 4.11 ERA isn't exactly what they were expecting. He was absolutely rocked in his only career meeting with the Angels a few weeks ago, as he was hammered for 8 ER and 9 H in only 4.2 innings of work, although the Rangers still managed to win the game 15-9. The Angels had 5 guys with 2 H or more that day and both Trumbo and Morales went deep off Dempster. Pujols (20/57 5 2B, 7 HR, 16 RBI, 11 BB, 2 K); Hunter (5/5 2B, 3B, 5 RBI); Kendrick (1/2 BB); Morales (2/3 2B, HR, 2 RBI); Trout (1/2 2B, BB, K) and Trumbo (1/3 HR, RBI, K) have combined to hit .417 against him with 8 2B, 1 3B, 9 HR and 24 RBI in only 72 career AB against him. Everything is screaming at us to take the Angels here. Roll with the LOS ANGELES ANGELS in the 1ST 5 INNINGS tonight ........
1ST 5 INNINGS: OAKLAND A'S (+150)
Griffin has been money for the A's so far this season, and the rookie has been even tougher to beat on the road. Not only is he 6-0 with a 1.94 ERA through his first 11 starts and 65 IP in his career, but he is 4-0 with a 1.15 ERA in 5 outings and 31.1 IP on the road so far this season as well. He has gone into the home stadiums of some pretty big hitting teams and has only allowed more than 1 ER in 1 of those games. Against the likes of the Angels (0 R), Mariners (1 R), Blue Jays (0 R) and Rangers (0 R) he has allowed 1 total run in 25.1 IP. He also had a "shaky" outing against the Twins in which he allowed 3 ER in 6 IP, but still picked up the victory. The A's lost his rookie road debut in Texas, but since then they have won all 4 of his following road starts and have posted a staggering 8-1 ML record in his L9 starts overall and 9-2 in his 11 career starts. And since being down after the 1st 5 innings in his first major league start (in a game the A's eventually won) the A's have gone out and jumped to a first 5 inning lead in nearly every single game he has pitched. In the youngsters L10 starts, the A's are 8-0-2 in the first half of the game. 8-0-2!! A lot of that does no doubt have to do with Griffin himself, who has allowed a total of 5 R in his L6 games for a 1.29 ERA in that stretch. Griffin has been dominant through the 1st 5 innings himself, as he has allowed only 3 ER in his last 31.2 IP for a paltry 0.85 ERA during the first 5 innings over his last 7 starts. Scherzer is also 5-1-4 through the 1st 5 innings in his L10 starts and does hold this A's team in check for the most part as Barton, Drew, Gomes, Moss, Pennington and Smith hit for a combined .143 against him in 28 AB. Still this A's team is rolling once again and it is hard to go against them in any capacity right now. They come into tonight's meeting having won 2-of-3 from Baltimore at home and have now produced another blistering 8-2 run in their L10 games. Going a little further, they are 19-6 in their L25 overall. The Tigers limp into this series on the other hand, having dropped 2 straight and posted a 5-8 record in their L13 overall. Run with the OAKLAND A'S in the 1ST 5 INNINGS in this playoff implicating battle tonight.......
