TODAY'S ACTION --
*2 UNITS* ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (-125)
Wade Miley has dominated the Rockies in his career, putting together a perfect 7-0 mark in 10 games pitched (9 GS) against the franchise. He has been downright dominant in those outings, allowing more than 2 ER only 2 times and allowing more than 3 ER only 1 time and those came back in the 2012 season. Since the 2013 season began play, Miley has been huge against the Rockies, compiling a perfect 4-0 mark in 4 starts, while allowing a mere 5 ER, and 33 BB/H in 26.2 innings of work. That has produced a brilliant 1.69 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 15 K to go along with it. The Diamondbacks have posted an 8-1 mark in his 9 starts against the team and an 8-2 mark overall in the 10 games he has pitched in against Colorado. Gonzalez (7/18 HR, RBI), Rosario (8/16 3 2B, HR, 3 RBI) and Stubbs (3/9 3 RBI) are the only Rockies with any success against Miley (.429 3 2B, 2 HR, 7 RBI) but those 3 guys come into the game with plenty of question marks right now. Gonzalez is currently mired in a 2-for-23 (.087) slump, Rosario is expected to get an MRI on his ailing hand today and was held out of the lineup yesterday and Stubbs is never guaranteed to be in the starting lineup. Miley has handled the other members of the Rockies lineup with relative ease, holding Tulowitzki (3/13 K), Arenado (1/6 2 RBI), Rutledge (2/13 2 2B, 2 RBI, 4 K), Barnes (1/4), Blackmon (3/11 2B, 2 K), LeMahieu (1/9 2 K), and Pacheco (2/11 2 K) to a pathetic .194 average with only 3 XBH and 0 HR. For the Rockies, Morales has only started 3 of the 9 games he has pitched in Arizona, but that might not necessarily be a bad thing as he has been absolutely torched in his career there. The lefty has allowed 10 R and 15 H in his 16.2 IP in the ballpark, for a lofty 5.40 ERA there. The Diamondbacks also dominated the Rockies when they played at Chase Field in 2013, picking up the W in 8 of their 10 meetings on the Arizona home turf. Roll with the ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS to pick up the WIN in Arizona tonight.......
*2 UNITS* CINCINNATI REDS (-125) AND *1 UNIT* OVER 7.5 CHICAGO CUBS @ CINCINNATI REDS (+105)
The Reds are 25-7 in their L32 meetings against the lowly Cubs and their ace on the hill has always performed at a subpar rate when pitching against this division rival. Samardzija hasn't shined in his previous meetings against the Reds, and in fact is winless with an 0-4 mark in his L7 match-up against the Reds. His ERA has been mediocre in that span, hitting 4.50, but with this paltry lineup of Cubs hitters around him, it doesn't appear as if he is going to get enough offense to steal Chicago a win here tonight. He has been dominant in 2014 so far with a 1.53 ERA overall, but remarkably the Cubs have yet to win him a single game, and he rests at 0-2. Even more remarkable, was the win we cashed in on with the Arizona Diamondbacks in his last start, when the Cubs took a 5-2 lead into the 9th against Arizona and ended up losing the game outright, 7-5. He started 5 games against the Reds last year and held an 0-2 mark with a dismal 5.16 ERA through 29.2 IP against them, as he allowed 18 R, 4 HR and issued the most walks against any team (17) while allowing a .292 overall BAA for the Reds. The Cubbies big right-hander has also struggled to get things going early on the last two seasons, as he has now posted a 1-6 record in 11 outings during the months of March and April. The Cubs are an even worse 3-8 overall in that span as well. On the other side of the hill, Simon was dominant in his previous start against the Cubs on April 18, as he tossed 6 innings of 1 R ball (an unearned run) and gave up 4 H while picking up the 4-1 win. He has also never lost to the Cubs in his career, going 2-0 with a save in 11 career meetings (1 GS) against the team. Go with the CINCINNATI REDS and the OVER in tonight's meeting......
*2 UNITS* TAMPA BAY RAYS (-125) AND *1 UNIT* OVER 9 TAMPA BAY RAYS @ CHICAGO WHITE SOX (+100)
This one should have plenty of runs crossing the plate as well as both of these line-ups are looking strong tonight and the two pitchers facing each other have struggled mightily pretty much overall in these respective situations. The Rays will turn the ball over to their youngster, Odorizzi, which is always questionable as to why, when the youngster comes into the game having posted an abysmal 0-2 mark with a 9.45 ERA over his L3 starts. This will be the 11th start of his career and this kid must be used to some good 'ol home cooking, because he has been horrendous on the road so far to kick off his career. The righty has made 5 starts away from the friendly confines of Tampa, going 0-2 with a 5.96 ERA in his career on the road. He has never faced the White Sox or any of their hitters in his career, so things could look a little off early. But don't panic. Odorizzi is keeping hitters to a paltry .121 average in his first time through the lineup. After that though, hitters have dominated him, raking the pitcher for a .452 mark in the rest of the game. Take the TAMPA BAY RAYS AND the OVER in this match-up.......
*2 UNITS* CLEVELAND INDIANS (+115)
The Indians picked up their first sweep in Southern California since 1999 in last season's lone series between the two teams in Anaheim. This Cleveland team should have enough to get it done again tonight against an Angels offense that suddenly came up inept, with only 5 R scored over their L2 games against the Yankees after plating 14 R in the first night's contest to open the series. With Justin Masterson on the hill for Cleveland, this is the play. Masterson is 4-0 in his career against the Angels and has been downright mesmerizing in his 6 career starts at Anaheim Stadium with a 2.14 ERA there. He also has kept the Angel hitters in check for the most part, holding them to a lowly career .249 average against him. Jump on the CLEVELAND INDIANS as the road dog......
There you have it!! That is our action for this MAKE THAT MONEY MONDAY in the MLB!!
