TODAY'S FREEBIE PLAYS:
OHIO STATE BUCKEYES (-8)
I don't know how the bookies have this line at 8, but apparently they feel that Purdue is going to give this OH ST team a good game today. The Buckeyes come into this one on a bit of a roll, going 3-0 ML in their L3 and 3-1 ATS in their L4 games and come into this game averaging 275+ YPG in the rushing attack over their L3 games. That is a significant YPG average, as the Boilermakers come into this one allowing 274+ YPG in the rushing game in their L3 games overall. The Boilermakers meanwhile are currently averaging only 111 YPG on the ground over their L3. Again, those are significant numbers because when the Buckeyes have out-rushed their opponents by 95 yards or more in a game, they are currently 5-0 ML and 4-1 ATS in those 5 games. And in those 5 games, they are winning by an average MOV of 18 PPG, with 4 of those 5 victories by at least 10 points or more and 2 of them by 20 or more. Quite surprisingly, OH ST doesn't completely own this series, but they are 6-2 ML in the L8 meetings, but only 3-5 ATS in that span. Purdue has actually gone 2-1 ML in the L3 games in Indiana and they are 6-3 ATS in the L9 meetings overall between these two schools. But the Buckeyes running game should prove too much here and they should walk away with anywhere from a 10-13 point victory in this one. Take OHIO STATE to COVER the SPREAD in this one.........
LOUISVILLE CARDINALS (-2.5)
This one has actually dropped 0.5 points towards Pitt's favor, but Pitt comes into this game severely banged up and without their star RB Graham, who is lost for the season with a knee injury. Pitt has actually owned this series in the L3 seasons, as they are 3-0 ML in the L3 meetings and 4-0 ATS in this match-up since 2007. They are also 2-0 ATS and ML in the L2 meetings in Louisville, and have outscored the Cardinals by a score of 61-10 in those 2 games. But today should be much different, as Louisville comes into this game, 5-0 ATS and 3-2 ML in the L3 games, including a 3-2 ML record at home. However, they have not produced on the spread at home this season as they have gone 2-3 ATS at home in 2011, although they are 2-0 ATS in their L2 games played in Kentucky. With Graham out for the Panthers, the Cardinals should be able to control the running game in this one and when they do, they have hit at a clip of 4-2 ATS and ML in the L6 games when they have won the battle in the ground game. Go with the LOUISVILLE CARDINALS to win by a FG or more in this one...........
OVER 43.5 NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS @ PENN STATE NITTANY LIONS
Obviously emotions are going to be high for this one today and it should lead to points being put on the board in our opinion. Nebraska comes in off a shocking loss to Northwestern at home last week, but the two teams did combine to score 53 in that one. In fact, the Huskers have had one team score at least 24 points in every game so far this season, and have had one team score at least 34 points at a clip of 7-2 in their 9 games in 2011. In their 3 games on the road this season, they are averaging a combined total of 57 points in those games. On the flip side, Penn State has been all about the defense this season and they have only had one game go Over in 2011, making them 7-1-1 for the Under this season. But not only are they going to be playing this game with all the emotion of the past week, but they have been off for two weeks and have had plenty of time to prepare fully for this game, despite the distractions. We originally were going to go with NEB as a blowout winner, but then this whole fiasco came to light and Paterno was fired and we don't know what to think there anymore. It could go either way. But we should be safe on this one. Jump on the OVER here..............
