TONIGHT'S FREEBIE PLAYS --
UC RIVERSIDE HIGHLANDERS (+16.5)
This is another spread that I just can't quite figure out and if we already weren't playing with house money for the day, I would probably push this play for a little higher UNITS. But if you have been with us throughout this whole NCAA BB season, you know we love backing the Highlanders (have for years) and they have cashed in big time for us once again this season (also as they have for years). A near 17 point spread just seems like a bit too much and we'll take full advantage here, especially with a Highlanders team that comes into this one having pulled off 2 straight wins and covered the spread in 4 of their L5 overall. They have also been productive for their backers when listed as a double-digit underdog, as they have covered in each of the L3 contests when given double-digit points and they are 5-1 ATS in their L6 when the spread is +6 or higher with them as the dog. Riverside also played LB ST tough in their first meeting this season, losing a 77-70 heart-breaker in OT, but they did cover the spread as +10 point underdogs in that one. Riverside would also be a perfect 10-0 against today's expected spread in the L10 meetings between the two schools, as although they have posted a sub-par 4-6 ML record in the L10 meetings between the two schools, the 49'ers have never won by more than 13 points in any of those games. UCR has also managed to cover the spread in 7 of the L8 meetings as holds an 8-2 ATS record in the L10 battles between the two schools. Go with UC RIVERSIDE to COVER the SPREAD once again in today's meeting......
BOSTON BRUINS (-115)
The Bruins have dominated Ottawa in recent meetings and despite a lackluster month of February that has largely been as disappointment as we have all watched the Bruins post a 4-7 ML record do far this month. However, Boston has literally owned the Senators in recent meetings in Ottawa, posting a perfect 7-0 ML record in their L7 games played on that Canadian ice. Rusk did get the start in place of Thomas last night as expected, so Thomas will be back in goal for Boston in this meeting, which is a very good thing, considering Thomas has a 8-0-0 record to go along with a miniscule 1.35 GAA in his L8 games played in Ottawa. Anderson will also be out for the Senators in tonight's meetings after cutting his hand in an accident at his home the other night, and that should shelve their starting goaltender for an extended period of time. Auld has been decent against the Bruins in his 6 career starts against them, posting a 4-2 ML record, but he does have a meager 88% save percentage this season to go with his balky 3.28 GAA in 13 starts. Boston has also won 7 straight meetings between the two teams overall and has outscored the Senators 14-4 in the L4 games played on Ottawa's home ice. Skate with the BOSTON BRUINS to WIN this one on the road........
