BOSTON CELTICS (+2.5)
Alright, so apparently we are going against the public in a major way, as evidenced by the nearly 5-point swing in the line with the announcement of Rose being in the line-up for tonight's battle in Beantown. The Celtics have been struggling, dropping 2 straight games, both on their home floor, and have started out this shortened season an unprecedented 4-5 ML. As we have said before, this is not your momma's Celtics, as these guys are much older, slower and aren't quite shooting the ball like they used to. And this Bulls team has been rejuvenated by their young superstar Rose and the young and run Bulls have responded by winning 3 straight and 9 out of his L10 games overall. They have been good on the road as well, posting a 6-2 ML when not in Chicago so far this season, including going 5-1 ATS in the L6 on the road. Defensively they have been tough, allowing 83 points or less in 6 of their L8 games as well and holding their opponents to 42% from the field and 36% from outside on the season overall. Offensively they are scoring a whole 4 points more a game on the road (100 PPG) than for the season overall (96) and have been much more productive shooting the ball when away from home, as they connect for 47% from FG range and nearly 46% from beyond the arc. And as I wrote, the Celtics are struggling lately, but they have gone 3-2 ML at home so far on the season and have had the fortunes of a lot of rest so far this season, as that last game against Dallas they were coming in off a 4+ day layoff. They were rusty and they looked it. They like playing with a day of rest, as they have posted a 4-1 ATS record when on one day's rest in 2011-12. The home team has won 5 in a row when these teams meet up against each other and has posted an 8-2 ML record in the L10 battles. Boston has managed to post a 4-1 ML record at home in the L5 in that span, scoring 104 points or more in each of their wins and winning by double-digits in 3 out of the L4 on their home court. However, the favored team has covered in 3 straight games and in 7 of the L9 meetings, although the home team has actually been favored in 8 of those 9 games. Rose might be playing tonight, but he will feel the effects of his toe injury, the Celtics will make sure of that. Noah is also going to fight through a thumb injury, and Hamilton is listed as doubtful for tonight's contest due to a groin strain. The Celtics should be rested and ready to go and this will be a statement game for them tonight, just to make sure we don't forget they are still in the Eastern Conference picture. Go with the BOSTON CELTICS to COVER the SPREAD as the small home underdog.......
CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (+3)
This one should be tight all the way through and Cleveland State has proven to be a tough match-up no matter the situation yet again this season. The Vikings have had a tough time against Butler in recent seasons, losing 5 straight meetings and dropping 9 of the L10 overall between the two schools. Butler has also covered the spread in each of the L4 between them, with 3 of those games coming as the listed favorite. But this is not the Cleveland State team of old, and they come into this match-up having won 2 straight games, 8 of their L10 and holding a 14-3 ML record on the season overall. They actually have some impressive wins on the year as well, but perhaps none more impressive than their win over Vanderbilt on the road to start off the season. And the Vikings have been tough on the road this season, posting a 7-1 ML record in their 8 true road games and an 8-2 ML record in all games away from campus overall. They have also shown that they can battle through the toughest of adversity as they have had 7 games this season decided by 5 or less points and they are a perfect 7-0 ML in those 7 games overall. Cleveland State has struggled ATS as of late, going 4-7 in their L11 against the spread, but they are a perfect 2-0 ATS when listed as the underdog this season. However, Butler is always a tough team to beat, especially on their home court, but they have been slightly better than mediocre there so far this season, posting a 6-3 ML record at home in 2011-12 and an abysmal 0-5-1 ATS record in those games. They too are no strangers to close games, however they haven't escaped untouched like the Vikings have, as Butler holds a 6-3 ML record in their 9 games this season decided by 6 points or less, although they are 3-1 ML at home in those games. Both of these teams should struggle from beyond the arc in tonight's meeting, as Cleveland State hits for barely 30% from downtown on the road, while Butler has really struggled at home, hitting for a measly 23% from outside. Cleveland State most likely won't help them in any way defensively either as they have allowed their opponents to hit for a mere 23% for 3's on the road. Go for CLEVELAND STATE to COVER the SPREAD as the small underdog in tonight's meeting......
PHOENIX COYOTES (-110)
The coyotes dominate the Jackets going 10-2-0 in their last 12 meetings. It is uncertain who Richards will start in net, as the Blue Jackets' goaltenders have struggled lately. Sanford has started three of the last four games and is 1-6-1 with a 3.26 GAA and a shutout in his last nine appearances. Mason, who hasn't played since surrendering four goals on 16 shots in one period of work against Anaheim on Sunday, is 1-4-1 with a 3.46 GAA in his last seven starts. Mason is 1-4-0 with a 3.25 GAA lifetime against the Coyotes, while Sanford is 1-3-0 with a 3.28 GAA in four career starts. The Jackets will be without Carter and Wisniewski again. Coyotes goalie Smith is 2-2-1 with a 2.37 GAA vs Columbus but hasn't played them as a Coyote. He has a 1.55 GAA in his last 5 games and a 2.25 GAA on the road this season. Doan should get a couple points in this one. Go with the PHOENIX COYOTES to WIN the game again here tonight........
