TODAY'S ACTION --
(MLB)
UNDER 9.5 LOS ANGELES ANGELS @ TEXAS RANGERS (-120)
Both teams are rolling with their starting pitching lately as was evidenced by yesterday's 2-0 shutout for the Angels to open the series. The Angels starting pitchers have put together a 4-2 mark over their L6 starts, while compiling a 2.83 ERA and .222 BA allowed in that span. Texas staff has nearly equaled those numbers themselves over their L4 starts, posting a 3-1 mark in that span with an even better 1.25 ERA and 38 K against only 6 BB. The two guys on the hill here today can definitely keep this one under the total, although they will need a couple of their better performances. Chacin has yet to receive a decision through 2 starts for the Angels, allowing 6 ER in only 11 1/3 IP. Perez has fared pretty well against LA in his career, tallying a 2.65 ERA through 6 appearances against them (4 GS), although he only has a 1-2 record in those meetings. Stick with the UNDER in tonight's rematch.......
ST. LOUIS CARDINALS (+105)
The Cubs are suddenly in a minor slump and the Cardinals took full advantage of that with a walk-off win in the bottom of the 9th yesterday. Chicago is scratching their heads after 3 consecutive losses overall and a dismal 2-6 mark in their L8 in which they have mustered a mere 3 R or less in 7 of those contests. St. Louis has been the opposite lately, posting a 4-2 mark in their L6, while averaging a balky 6.4 RPG over their L5 games heading into today's contest. Wacha has never helped them against the Cubs, as the hurler comes into tonight's matchup with an 0-3 record and 8.84 ERA in his L4 starts against the franchise. He has been scuffling lately as well, with a 7.71 ERA in his L2 starts, only making it through the 4th inning in both games. Hammel was money against the Cardinals earlier this season, picking up an easy win, while allowing only 1 R and 2 H in 6 innings of work back in April. He is now 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA in his L3 outings against the team. Still, this one seems like a game the Cardinals should sneak away with on their home field. Take the ST. LOUIS CARDINALS for the win......
UNDER 7.5 CINCINNATI REDS @ LOS ANGELES DODGERS (-110)
Runs were at a premium last night with Clayton Kershaw on the hill and we fully expect that to happen again tonight at Chavez Ravine. Cincinnati has been absolutely brutal offensively as of late, holding an 0-8 ML record in their L8 games while being outscored 61-23 in that span. Last nights outcome marked the 2nd time in 3 games the offensive has produced zero runs and star slugger Joey Votto is now in a pathetic .108 slump over his L11 games. They could have a future ace in the making on the mound tonight as Wright will be making his MLB debut for the club. The kid has looked extremely promising this season as he has posted an eye-popping 0.79 ERA in 36 IP between AA and AAA ball in 2016. He produced a 0.72 ERA in his 4 minor-league starts this season, pitching a shutout his last time out. Yes, this is the big leagues and these are big league hitters he will be facing tonight, but still we'll take a chance on those kind of numbers. Expect a good pitching showcase from two young hurlers in LA tonight. Go with the UNDER at Chavez Ravine.....
KANSAS CITY ROYALS (-125)
This line doesn't make much sense to us here, especially considering the recent success the Royals have enjoyed against their AL Central counterparts the last 2 seasons. Kansas City is now 7-0 ML in their L7 meetings against the Twins overall, while also posting an evenly money 7-0 ML record in their L7 games played at Target Field. They are starting to get hot right now, with a 6-2 ML record in their L8 games overall, while Minnesota has now produced a paltry 1-10 ML record in their L11 games at home, producing a dismal 2.80 RPG in that span. Volquez is struggling over his L5 starts in 2016, posting a 1-4 record and hefty 6.00 ERA in that stretch, but he has handled the Twins with relative ease throughout his career. He struck out 10 in an early April start against Minnesota while allowing 2 R, which pushed his career record to 3-1 with a 2.13 ERA against the franchise. Santana was equally as good in his April start versus KC the day before, as he allowed 2 R and 7 H in 6 innings of work and now holds a 2.57 ERA in his L3 against KC. Roll with the KANSAS CITY ROYALS in tonight's meeting......
UNDER 7 SAN DIEGO PADRES @ SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (+100)
This game clearly shows a huge mismatch on paper for these two former pitchers whom used to be teammates for another young club (Cubs) making a serious push towards a great season. Two very different tales have since spun out for the 2016 season for these two pitchers as Cashner makes his first start in about 2 weeks, hoping to turn around a disappointing start to his season, while Samardizija has been money as of late while the Giants are quite possibly the hottest team in the MLB currently. For starters, the Giants are rolling big time lately, posting a monster 11-1 ML mark in their L12 games overall, while posting a perfect 7-0 ML record against SD in 2016. They have also now won 9 straight at home against their in-state rival as well. Things should be equally rough for the Padres tonight as they square off against Samardizija and he has been money as of late, tossing 7 2/3 IP in each of his L4 starts and comes in off an 8 inning, 1 R, 3 H outing in a win against San Diego in which he whiffed 8. That improved him to a monster 5-1 against the Padres in his career in 8 games, while compiling a 3.14 ERA in that stretch. Cashner has been brutal against San Francisco in his career, going 0-5 with a 7.18 ERA in his 10 appearances and 6 starts against the team. San Diego's offense has been dismal themselves lately, producing a combined team BA of .154 and plating only 20 runs in their current 2-6 ML stretch over their L8 contests. Take the UNDER with these offenses....
BOSTON RED SOX RUN LINE -1.5 (-115)
Colorado has been brutal against the AL in the last several seasons, including posting a 5-15 ML record in interleague play last season. That dropped their record to 19-56 ML against AL squads since the 2012 season, which also includes a 5-23 ML run in their L28 interleague contests played on the road. The Red Sox offense has been red hot all season long, leading MLB with 256 R and a .296 team average, while producing a staggering 8.6 runs per 9 innings for Price this season. They are literally on fire as of late, going 11-2 ML in their L13 games, while hitting a combined .346 and producing 8.4 RPG. DeLaRosa is making his return from a month long stint on the DL for the Rockies, and he's hoping the rest helped cure his ills before he was injured. Over his L5 starts, the Rockies righty only compiled 20 1/3 innings of work, while allowing 23 ER. Boston counters with David Price and all the ace has done over his L2 outings is allowed 3 ER in 14 IP while going 2-0. Run with the BOSTON RED SOX on the RUN LINE at Fenway.......
