TODAY'S ACTION --
(NBA)
TORONTO RAPTORS (+1.5) AND OVER 200.5 ATLANTA HAWKS @ TORONTO RAPTORS
The Hawks are no longer the secret in the NBA, and although the Raptors are in a slight funk lately, have to give the edge to the home team in Canada tonight. Atlanta heads into this matchup having won 4 straight games and has posted a 9-1 ML record in their L10 overall. They have been equally money for their backers in that same stretch, holding a 7-2 ATS mark in their L9 games and an even better 13-4 ATS mark over their L17 contests. Atlanta has been performing well when playing away from home lately also, with 4 straight ML wins on the road, and in fact, their last loss on the road came in Toronto five games ago. Overall though, the Hawks are now on a 9-2 ML and ATS run in their L11 away from home, with one of those losses coming in Golden State. The Raptors appear headed in the other direction to close out their season, as they have now dropped 3-of-their-L4 overall, while also dropping to a 1-4 ATS mark in their L5 contests. And although the Raptors have posted a 5-4 ML record over their L9 games on their home court, they have been a bust for their backers there lately, holding a 3-6 ATS record in those games Why go with the home team here? Well the Raptors just seem to absolutely own the Hawks in recent meetings, having posted a 6-1 ML and ATS record in the L7 games between the two foes. Toronto has been money at home against the Hawks as well, going 4-1 ML and ATS in the L5 meetings on their home court since back in the 2013-14 season. On the trend side, the Hawks have now hit the 100-point mark in 9 straight games overall and don't see much in the way to stop them from doing the same today. Toronto has been hitting the century mark and then some as well lately, topping the mark in 15-of-their-L16 games overall. In fact, the Raptors have hit for 98 points or more in all but one of their L26 contests heading into this one. Go with the TORONTO RAPTORS and the OVER on their home court here tonight.......
DENVER NUGGETS (+2.5)
The Nuggets were red hot heading into the All-Star break, but have very much cooled off it seems, as they have now lost 2 straight by 9 points or more heading into this match-up against a battered Memphis Grizzlies squad. Denver is in a brutal stretch against the books that has seen them post a 2-6 ATS mark over their L8 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their L5 when playing as the road underdog. Still not sure why the Grizzlies would be getting the edge here, as they are beyond beat up right now, as all of Conley, Randolph and Gasol will all be out once again due to various injuries. Memphis has been in a tailspin themselves lately, dropping each of their L3 games and posting a 2-7 ML record in their L9 overall. Take the DENVER NUGGETS in tonight's showdown.......
(NCAA BB)
OAKLAND GOLDEN GRIZZLIES (-1.5)
Another team that we have backed with some pretty good consistency over the last few seasons and here we are late in a tourney bracket and the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland are looking like the team to beat for the Vegas 16 Championship. This scrappy, run-and-gun team from Michigan has gotten here by putting the ball in the basket at an impressive pace, coming in off a 104-81 win over ETSU and topping the 90-point mark in each of their L2 and in 3-of-their-L4 games overall. In fact, they are averaging nearly 101 PPG in their L3 wins. The Golden Grizzlies have been a scoring machine pretty much all season, hitting for 84 points or more in all but 2 of their L9 games overall, and if they find away to hit that mark again tonight, Old Dominion may not have a chance to keep up. That will be the key here is which side of the ball takes control of the game, the grind-it-out slower game that the Monarchs would prefer, or the up-tempo, higher scoring showcase Oakland would benefit from. A neutral court hasn't seemed to bother Oakland for the most part this season, as they have managed to keep an 85+ PPG average, while hitting for 42% from downtown in all games played with no home advantage for either side. Defensively they have been just as good in the opposite regard, holding opponents to only 33% from beyond the arc and under 70 PPG in those games. Despite their success in this tournament, Old Dominion hasn't performed quite as well when playing on a neutral court themselves, as although they hold a 65 PPG for average, while keeping opponents to a measly 57 PPG against average, they have only managed to hit for 30% from 3-point range in those games. The Monarchs have been incredibly tough lately, picking up the cover at an 8-2 ATS clip in their L10 games (all as the favorite). Just don't think they will be able to stop Oakland enough here. Roll with the OAKLAND GOLDEN GRIZZLIES for the win......
MOREHEAD STATE EAGLES (+4)
If you have followed us throughout this season and recent seasons, you know that Morehead State is a team that we like to play on quite a bit. Today seems like another good chance to cash in on the Eagles as they could potentially close out their season with a 2-game sweep in the CBI Championship round against the Wolf Pack. It's really quite simple, we like to play on the Eagles because they like to cash in for their backers, as evidenced by their recent 10-1 ML record and 7-3 ATS record over their L11 games. Even if they do lose outright here tonight, this one should be extremely close, as since December 20th, they have lost only one game by more than 6 points, with 4 of their losses in that span coming by 4 points or less. When they have been getting the points they have been a good team to back as well, hitting for a 5-1 ATS mark when playing as the underdog this season, with a 7-2 ATS mark in their 9 games overall getting the points. Nevada is another team we like to play on, but just don't think this one will be decided by more than a bucket or two either way, despite the fact that the Wolf Pack head into tonight's game with an 8-1 ATS record in their L9 games when playing as the favorite. Nevada has lost only twice this season when playing as the favorite, with only one of those losses coming on their own campus. The Wolf Pack are actually 9-1 ATS in their L10 at home overall, however Morehead State also happens to own a 6-1-1 ATS record in their L8 on the road. The Eagles are an equally impressive 11-3-1 ATS in their L15 overall. Nevada most likely is in trouble due to their inability to hit the 3-ball, as they are only hitting for a mere 28% from beyond the arc as a team this season, with no improvement on their own home court. Morehead State on the other hand, hits for a slightly better rate on the road than at home, hitting for around 38% regardless of the building. The two schools have met up twice since the 2013-14 school year with Morehead State taking both meetings. Take MOREHEAD STATE to cover in Nevada.......
(NHL)
PHILADELPHIA FLYERS (-110)
Washington is by far the cream of the crop in the NHL this season, as their 113 points can attest, and will have heavy odds towards making a run to the Stanley Cup come playoff time, but tonight presents a decent chance to take the Flyers on their home ice. For starters, although the Capitals come into today's game off the heels of an easy 4-1 win against the Blue Jackets on their home ice last game, they have struggled to win by two goals or more over a large chunk of their recent games. Despite going 3-3 against the PL in their L6 games, they now hold a dismal 3-17 mark against the -1.5 PL over their L20 games, failing to win by 2 goals or more in 14 straight games prior to that last stretch of 6 games. That skid doesn't really end there either, as they have won by 2+ goals in only 4 of their L26 overall and only once in their L11 away from home. The Flyers look to be a pretty safe bet themselves lately when getting a goal+, as they have either won outright or lost by 1 goal in 5 straight and at an 11-1 clip in their L12 overall. Philadelphia has been money in their home building as a +1.5 dog, as they have won or lost by less than 2 goals at a 21-3 clip in their L24 at home. They have handled themselves nicely against Washington so far this year, as after they lost the first meeting this season against the Capitals (5-2) the Flyers won the second meeting (4-3) before losing the last meeting (3-2) in Washington. In fact, the Flyers have played well against the Capitals in recent seasons, now holding a 7-3 ML record in the L10 matchups going back to 2013, with only one of those 3 losses coming by more than a single goal, this year's 5-2 loss. That includes a 4-1 ML mark in their L5 meetings held in Philly. The Flyers are currently on an 11-3-2 run overall and should be squaring off against Holtby in net for the Caps, and although he is 2-0-1 against the Flyers already this season, that only improved his recent mark to 6-4-5 against them with a GAA near 3. In net for the Flyers on the other hand is expected to be Mason, and he has been playing quite well recently, holding a 7-2-2 mark with a 1.97 GAA in his L11 starts. Take the PHILADELPHIA FLYERS on their home ice tonight.........
