UNDER 7 LOS ANGELES DODGERS @ SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (-110)
Somehow this one started out at 7.5 and has already dropped to the 7 it sits at pretty much everywhere now, so we must be on the right track here. Fully expect this to be a pitcher's duel that lives up to its billing as the Dodgers throw Billingsley out there against Lincecum for the G-men. Billingsley comes into today's meeting looking to rebound from a horrible 2-start stretch, as he has been roughed up for 10 ER in his L11 innings over those 2 starts, both Dodger losses, although they came during interleague action. So far this season, Billingsley has been off and on, but he has bounced back nicely (prior to his last start) in starts immediately following a rough outing (4 ER or more) as he was 1-0 and had allowed 7 ER in 27 IP (2.33 ERA), while the Dodgers had gone 4-0 in those starts. Again though, that was prior to his last start, in which he was in the same situation and he was pounded for 6 ER in an 8-5 Dodger loss. June has not been kind to Billingsley throughout his career as although he is 12-9 during the month overall, his ERA (4.66) is by far his worst monthly ERA in his career. He has also had a rough stretch against the Giants lately, as he is 1-2 with a 5.81 ERA in his L4 starts against them since 2011 began. It was a completely different story in 2010 though, as Billingsley was money against SF, holding a 2-1 record and a puny 0.74 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in 5 starts against them that season. He has been okay against the Giant hitters in his career as he has kept Belt, Blanco, Burriss, Cabrera, Pagan and Sandoval to a lowly .220 average (15-for-68) with 2 HR and 7 RBI lifetime. He has had troubles with quite a few Giants though, with Posey, Theriot and Schierholtz hitting 26-for-61 (.420) against the stud righty, although they have 0 HR and only 7 RBI between them. Lincecum has suddenly fallen completely off the map, to the point that his father had to defend him against rumors of a demotion to the minors. Can you imagine that? A 2-time Cy Young winner being shipped to the minors? That seems crazy to me. Big time Timmy is desperately looking for a quality start to get him back on track, something he has struggled to do all
season long, with only 1 start since May began, in which he has allowed less than 3 ER. He has also posted a dismal 5.29 ERA in those 10 starts, leading some to believe he may have lost it completely. However, Lincecum may showcase some of his usual stellar self for today's contest, as he has held Gordon, Miles, Loretta, Loney, Gwynn, Gordon, Hairston and AJ Ellis to a lifetime 19-for-105 (.180) average against him with only 5 extra-base hits and a combined 20 K. Abreu, Ethier, Kennedy and Uribe could be a different story though, as they have combined to hit Lincecum for a career .330 average in 69 AB and have done a little more damage against him with 5 2B and 2 HR - but they do also have 17 K as well. The Dodgers have been blanked in back-to-back games already in this series and are hitting a lowly .200 as a team over their L4 games overall. They are even worse, combining for a pathetic .190 average through the first two games against SF. For the season, the Dodgers have batted a wimpy .210 through the first 4 meetings against the Giants. It just feels like these pitchers are due for a great outing, and this one could end up leaving the rest of the betting public scratching their heads when all is said and done. Take the UNDER in today's battle.......
TAMPA BAY RAYS (-105)
Just don't have much faith in the Royas actually sweeping the Rays here. The home team has won 6 straight and 8 of the L9 between these two teams, but the Royals come into today's game sporting a .236 average on the season against lefties, while scoring nearly a whole run and a half less in those games. Moore has also pitched well lately, posting a perfect 3-0 record in his L4 starts with a 2.62 ERA in that span, allowing 2 ER or less in 5 of his L6 starts. The Royals also haven't swept the Rays in a series since way back in 2001 and while using a AAA-callup to start on the mound today, I just don't think it's going to happen today either. Go with the TAMPA BAY RAYS here.......
