SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (-130) AND
UNDER 7.5 SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS @ ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (-110)
Back to action for the returning champs in this one and they should have a fairly easy time of it against a revamped and youngster Diamondbacks squad that is still carrying a boatload of contract dollars from guys pretty much bid good riddance in the off-season. The Giants will be returning with their Ace starter for tonight's opening meeting, with Bumgarner on the hill looking to begin his season much the same way he finished the World Series run to cap off 2014. As we all know by now, the man was unstoppable against the Royals, posting a 2-0 mark (with a Save) in 21 innings of work. He allowed a staggering 1 R and 1 BB in that stretch and only gave up 9 hits overall. He didn't look as sharp during spring training, as he posted a lofty 4.91 ERA to go with an 0-3 mark in his 6 Cactus League starts, but his last outing did suggest he might be ready to go, as he allowed 1 R and whiffed 4 in 5 IP. The Diamondbacks will still have their big slugger in the middle of the order with Goldschmidt looking for a big start to his campaign himself, but Bumgarner has mostly kept him in check, holding him to a .200 lifetime average in 20 career AB against him, although Goldy does have 2 2B and a HR in his 5 hits. Arizona should also have Mark Trumbo slotted in cleanup tonight and that appears to be a good thing for SF, as he has gone 1-for-8 lifetime against Bumgarner with 4 K's. On the flip side, Arizona will be going with Josh Collmenter on the hill and he comes in having finished off an outstanding spring training in which he didn't allow a single run in 13 innings of work, while posting a dominating 6/2 K-to-BB ratio. He completed his spring with 7 scoreless innings against the Indians and should be looking to get off on the same foot against a Giants lineup he has had some moderate success against in his career. Posey has been a huge problem for him, as the former MVP has hit .611 (11-for-18) against him in his career with 3 HR and 8 RBI. Other than that though he has fared pretty well against the likes of Blanco (2/17); Belt (2/13); Arias (0/9); Crawford (5/22); Panik (0/6) and McGehee (2/8) hitting a combined .146 (11-for-75) against the big righty with only 3 2B between them. This game looks to be a snooze-fest overall, but the last two starts Bumgarner has made in AZ have resulted in a 4-2 and 4-1 win respectively, but he did start there in his first start last season and gave up 4 R (none earned) in a measly 4 innings, in what turned out to be a 9-8 Giants win. The Giants haven't lost in Arizona for their hurler since the 2012 season, as they have gone 5-0 in the 5 outings he has made in the desert. This could be a tightly contested battle throughout, but expect these pitchers to eat up the early innings as they settle into a groove on their young seasons. Take the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS and the UNDER in tonight's meeting.....
